A breath taking collection of ancient Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art, the Getty Villa of Malibu is a most captivating and stimulating holiday location. This Museum owes its beauty not only to the various themed antiquities it holds but also to its majestic Roman-inspired architecture and gorgeous gardens. The Getty Villa features artwork and artifacts from and early as 2,500 B.C. to the 5th century B.C. One can personally observe the cycle of art as it passes from Cycladic to Classic sculpture. It is like walking through an elegantly preserved time capsule.
Whats even more awe inspiring about this museum is the close proximity one gets to experience with such ancient artifacts. It takes all the restraint and self control one can muster not to reach out and touch a piece of the past. The exhibits aren't limited to just sculptures and sarcophagi either. There are smaller portions including jewelry, blown and cast glass, and even coins and ring seals. There's just so much to be taken in from this enlivening location. Even the atmosphere and surroundings reflect the ancient feel of the exhibits they take their likeness from. The entire place simply feels like a portal into a long forgotten time. In my opinion it is one of the most matchless destinations on this side of the world.
